Fairfield County Officials Believe Brush Fires 'Set Intentionally'

The Fairfield County Fire Service is investigating 11 brush fires that consumed about 85 acres, which they believe were 'set intentionally' Saturday afternoon.

Fairfield County, SC (WLTX) -- The Fairfield County Fire Service is investigating 11 brush fires that consumed about 85 acres, which they believe were 'set intentionally' Saturday afternoon.

In a Facebook post Saturday night, officials said firefighters were sent to multiple brush fires along Highway 215 South and Highway 213 near Jenkinsville around 2:15 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Officials said firefighters requested the help of the South Carolina Forestry Commission.

Officials said no one was injured, and no homes or structures were damaged. Fairfield County Sheriff's Office, Fairfield County EMS, and Newberry County Fire all responded to the fires.

Officials believe that the fires were "set intentionally." The fire remains under investigation.

Fairfield County Fire Service said that the Forestry Units have contained the fires, but drivers should use caution in these areas as they will burn through the night and into Sunday.

The Fairfield County Sheriff's Department is leading the investigation.
