Flu Activity Declining as SC Deaths Reach 201

DHEC says 26 of the 34 flu-related deaths this week can be attributed to previous weeks.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Flu deaths have risen to 201 in South Carolina, but the state's department of health says the illness is beginning to slow down.

DHEC reports 34 more lab-confirmed deaths between February 25 to March 3. However, the agency says 26 of those deaths occurred in previous weeks.

The state is also seeing its first week in regional activity after experiencing widespread activity the past 11 weeks, which means flu-related activity is present in less than half the state's regions.
