You Can Own This Police Cruiser

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - If you’ve been wanting to own a police cruiser, you may be in luck.

The Chapin Police Department is looking for new ways to get money to help pay for the things they need. They’re putting up one of their patrol cars on the lot.

"This is a 2007 Dodge Charger. 5.7 Liter Hemi. It's fast. It's been really good to us. We're really trying to sell it to recoup some money to put back into our fund. For equipment on our newer vehicles. It's just time for it to go," said Craig.

If you live in Chapin, you may have seen this car out on the road over the years.

Captain Craig says you'll find a lot of the old gadgets in the Dodge Charger.

"Of course this vehicle was equipped with a lot of law enforcement equipment. There was a camera system in the visor. There's a gap between where the camera system was,” said Craig.

All the old gadgets are disconnected so you won't be able to use the siren or lights. The Charger has a little over 88,000 miles on it, has power windows, and is an automatic.

They're selling the patrol car starting at a bid of five-thousand dollars.

"It drives pretty smooth. It's had suspension work done pretty much like all our vehicles have. To be an '07 it rides pretty good," said Craig.

The police officer says the patrol car has never had an accident and that the car has been regularly maintained.

With this car helping you get a new set of wheels and your money helping the police station with their budget and getting new equipment, he thinks it's a great reason for you to find yourself behind the wheel.

"It's a good used car to help someone out and of course the funds we would get from this a small department, maintenance is a really big thing. I think the sell of this vehicle, the proceeds from that is going to help us out a lot," explained Craig.

If you want to get the patrol car, you'll have until March 9th to bid for it. You can deliver an envelope of your bid to the Chapin Police Department.
