COLUMBIA, S.C. — Nydja Hood is a Multi-Skilled Journalist/ General Assignment Reporter at WLTX-TV. She joined the team in August 2021.

Nydja is a native New Yorker, but no stranger to the South. She joins us from KNOE-TV in Monroe, La. where she worked as a multimedia journalist. During her time there, she covered the impact of Hurricane Laura as the communities started rebuilding after the storm.

Prior to reporting, Nydja worked as a desk assistant at WABC-TV in New York, the #1 local news station in the country. She also interned at its sister station WPVI-TV in Philadelphia.

Nydja is a born storyteller, and began to craft her voice during her time at Temple University (Go Owls!) where she earned her B.A. in Journalism. During her time there, she launched Temple University Television’s first ever hip-hop and music entertainment talk show, “The Vibe at Temple” where she served as host and executive producer. The show received a Mid-Atlantic Emmy nomination.

Nydja is a proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. She is also a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.

When she’s not doing news, you can find Nydja trying a new dish, listening to 90’s hip-hop/R&B, or playing with her dog.

Nydja is excited to call Cola home, explore its communities, and tell the stories of its people! Connect with Nydja on Twitter @NydjaHood and Facebook @NydjaHoodTV, or send an email to nhood@wltx.com
