COLUMBIA, S.C. — Cory Smith is the Weekend Evening Meteorologist and Weather Reporter for WLTX-TV in Columbia, SC.
Cory grew up in Tampa, Florida. While there, he experienced the very memorable hurricane seasons of 2004-2005. When it comes down to it, this is what originally sparked his interest in weather.
In 2009 he moved to Charlotte, NC and absolutely fell in love with the Queen City and the entire state of North Carolina. While there, he graduated with a B.S. in Meteorology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
In 2018, he moved to Parkersburg, WV to start his life as a TV Meteorologist at WTAP where he gained experience forecasting all types of weather ranging from severe to winter weather.
In November of 2019, he moved all the way down south to Louisiana to work KADN News 15. While along the Gulf Coast, he forecast and experienced over half a dozen tropical systems including Hurricanes Laura, Delta, Zeta, and Ida. He also covered multiple fatal tornado outbreaks as well as the historic freeze of 2020.
After all of that insane weather, he is happy to be closer to home in the Palmetto State and hopes to bring all of the things I have learned to help bring you new and exciting weather content on News 19!
