COLUMBIA, S.C. — Tai Wong is a Multi-Skilled Journalist for WLTX-TV, covering a wide range of stories as a general assignment reporter. He joined the team in April of 2021.
Before moving to the Midlands, Tai lived in Elmira, NY for two years working as the Noon Show Anchor and Reporter at WETM-TV.
Tai comes from Gainesville, Virginia, just 45 minutes outside the nation’s capital. He has always been interested in performance art, reporting, and the weather.
Tai graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a B.A. in Mass Communications with a concentration in Broadcast Journalism. He is currently working on his certificate for weather forecasting at Penn State University.
While Tai was learning the skills to become a reporter, anchor, and producer, he was also a part of VCU’s cheerleading team and was a residential assistant. He was also part of the student-ran newscast, VCU InSight, which aired on Fridays for the City of Richmond’s local PBS. During his senior year, Tai was the 2019 SPJ Mark of Excellence Award Regional winner for InSight.
Aside from work, Tai loves to relax by watching TV, play with his pet turtle, being around his loved ones, and cooking and baking something up in the kitchen. And when the weather is nice, he also enjoys going out to get ice-cream or relaxing in the sun.
Tai is happy to be in the Midlands to continue his broadcast career, meet new people and explore what South Carolina has to offer.
