(WLTX) - The term "man's best friend" hasn't been around forever. For instance, thousands of years ago, in the days of the Cro-Magnon tribes, no one had pets. Animals were for hunting. And, if you weren't hunting, you were probably the one being hunted!

Keda had hoped to make his father proud on his first big hunt. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worst and, now, he is assumed to be dead. But assumptions allow the best in life to pass you by.

Now he's got a long journey ahead on a bum foot. And, during the course of that journey, he acquires a very unlikely traveling companion. But they'll need to keep moving, because, "winter is coming!"

"Alpha" is a very compelling story with excellent cinematography. It's sort of a cross between "Life of Pi" and "The Revenant" (both fine films).

It also contains intense peril, animal cruelty and some very detestable edibles. Then again, it's a tale of survival in an unforgiving time. So, while it may turn stomachs, it still managed to leave a good impression on the Leemoji.

"Alpha" may not be fur everybody - but the dog days of summer.have given us a quality film...just when you leashed expect it!
