Lee's Review: 'Dr. Seuss' The Grinch'

"Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!" -- Dr. Seuss

(WLTX) - They say he's a mean one. That he really is a heel. But the Grinch is nicer than ever! He's simply misunderstood. Yes, his heart may be a few sizes too small, but he pretty much wears it on his sleeve. It's just hard to empathize with someone until you've lived in their skin.

Whether it be the 30-minute cartoon or the live action film from the year 2000, we're all very familiar with this tale. We've come to expect a rather hateful creature who turns all of his frustrations onto his poor little pup, Max - and, then, the entire town of Whoville!

But, this time, the Grinch really loves Max. We witness the good inside of him long before his moment of enlightenment. If anything, we just feel sorry for him. It doesn't necessarily spoil the movie. But it does greatly decrease the character's arc of change.

The funnier moments are when Illumination Entertainment does what they do best...slapstick! Unfortunately, there isn't enough physical comedy to put a smile on the face of the Leemoji.

Maybe he'd see it differently if it were a little closer to the holiday. But, for the youngsters who aren't yet familiar, it will make for a happy introduction.

Parents in question of discretion can expect some rude humor. But it's hardly worth mentioning because, more than likely, this Grinch will be considered to be too tame.

So go, if you must. Get the family - make haste!

Or you can watch the show on which it was based.

Still better, by far, with more time to spare,

For holiday time with your family to share.
