ORANGEBURG, S.C. — A South Carolina father and son are both getting to know what it feels like to graduate at the same time.

"This feels like heaven on earth. It’s just so amazing," said Brandon Gathers. He was exited not only about graduating himself, but also walking across the same stage with his father, Antonio, as part of the class of 2019 at South Carolina State University.

"This moment and this day means so much to me," said Antonio Gathers.

Antonio Gathers graduated with his masters in rehabilitation counseling while Brandon Gathers is graduating with  his masters in business management.

The two both draw inspiration from one another. "He basically inspires me to be the best version of myself," Brandon said. "He's just that guy. He’s a very successful pastor a very successful entrepreneur very detailed and strategic like he’s the best dad the best figure for me as a black man."

"What inspires me about Brandon is his tenacity, his perseverance," Antonio said. "He doesn’t let obstacles stop him and I’ve seen a lot in him that you don’t see a lot in our community with young men. He’s driven by his own goals and his own desires and he doesn’t let anything sway him."

The father and son hope to be able to inspire others with their story and let people know that anything is possible if one believes and works towards fulfilling their goals.
