SC lottery winner told his dog before his wife about winning $1 million

He needed to tell someone about the win, so he told the first person he saw.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A Lexington man was home alone when he checked his Powerball ticket and realized he’d won $1 million. And he desperately wanted to tell someone.

“I told my dog,” he said.

And when his wife got home, he told her second.

“He said he had a surprise for me, and then he showed me the ticket,” she said. “I still really don’t believe it.”

The first five numbers printed on his Powerball ticket purchased from the Stop N Shop on N. Lake Dr. in Lexington matched those drawn Wednesday, January 22, to win $1 million (11 - 33 - 44 - 59 - 67, and Powerball 8).

“The stress is gone,” he told lottery officials.

The odds of winning $1 million are 1 in 11,688,054.

For selling the claimed ticket, Stop N Shop in Lexington received a commission of $10,000.

The estimated Powerball jackpot for Wednesday night’s drawing is $394 million.
