SCDEW reminds residents job search requirement returns April 18

Beginning Sunday, individuals filing for Unemployment Insurance benefits in South Carolina will again be required to complete two weekly work searches.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Employment and Work Force (SCDEW) wants to remind individuals filing for unemployment that the weekly job search requirement returns Sunday, April 18.

Individuals filing for Unemployment Insurance benefits will again be required to complete two weekly work searches in SC Works Online Service (SCWOS).

The agency offers resources with step-by-step details on how to do the searches.

SCDEW also provides tips for individuals who may be nearing the end of a benefit year -- 12 months from the first time a person files an initial claim. Individuals will be asked to file a new claim.

Some claimants may experience a delay so it is very important that they continue certifying each week so that when their eligibility is reestablished for the new claim year they will receive benefits for all weeks to date.

If a benefit year is near, the agency reminds individuals about a couple of important steps to take using the MyBenefits portal.
