Have housing, rental issues? Plan to attend one of these free clinics in the Columbia area

From home buying to repair and illegal evictions, sessions are scheduled throughout month of April 2023

COLUMBIA, S.C. — April is financial literacy month. Folks thinking about buying a new home or facing financial issues regarding their home -- whether it is owned or rented -- may want to consider attending one of the free financial workshops coming up in April and May.

The City of Columbia is partnering with Richland County, and Richland School District One is partnering with the Columbia branch of the NAACP to schedule a series of free workshops focused on assisting area families who may be facing financial issues regarding their homes or apartments.

The City of Columbia Community Development Department and Richland County are hosting a home buying and financial workshop for those seeking to buy a home. Part of the All Access Columbia sessions, this workshop will focus on down payment assistance programs available through the city, guidelines and budgeting for buying a home, and credit and credit issues. Register online for this workshop to be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at the Busby Street Community Center, 1735 Busby St., Columbia.

Richland One and the Columbia NAACP are offering assistance for those who own or are renting their home or apartment. Families can expect guidance on such issues as available public benefits, utility assistance, illegal evictions and refusal to return security deposits, foreclosures, and maintenance issues -- including mold, damaged windows, floors, ceilings and doors, and broken fixtures.
