Protect your identity: free shred days, webinars offering safety tips available to South Carolinians

The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs will host free document shredding events, ID protection and cybersecurity webinars throughout March 2022.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs (SCDCA) wants to help residents protect themselves from identity theft, scams and more with a series of free webinars and document shredding events throughout the month of March. 

Gather up sensitive documents that need to be destroyed and take up to three boxes (copy paper box size or smaller) or three bags (kitchen trash bag size or smaller) per vehicle to one of the six free shred events listed below. There is no need to remove binder clips, paper clips, staples, rubber bands, or CDs or DVDs before shredding by Shred360.

  • Thursday, March 3 – First Presbyterian Church, 3810 Robert M Grissom Pkwy, Myrtle Beach
  • Friday, March 4 – Shandon Baptist Church, 5250 Forest Dr., Columbia
  • Tuesday, March 8 – North Charleston Coliseum, Parking Lot A, 5001 Coliseum Dr., North Charleston
  • Tuesday, March 15 – University of South Carolina - Beaufort, 1 Sand Shark Drive, Hilton Head Island
  • Monday, March 21 – First Baptist Church, 250 E Main St, Spartanburg
  • Friday, March 25 – Lions Memorial Field, 619 W. Buena Vista, North Augusta
