Parent company of Sumter processing plant affected by global cyberattack

It's unclear what effect, if any, the cyberattack had on local operations in the Midlands.

SUMTER, S.C. — JBS, the world's largest meat supplier, was hit with a cybersecurity attack over the weekend. The company is Australia's largest meat and food processing company has operations in the United States with headquarters in Colorado and processing plants throughout the country. 

JBS is the majority shareholder of Pilgrim's Pride Corporation, a chicken processing plant located in Sumter, South Carolina. However, It's unclear what effect, if any, the cyberattack had on local operations in the Midlands.

In a post on the Pilgrim's Sumter SC Facebook page, the company said that due to an outage, third shift production was canceled for Monday night as well as orientation. Maintenance and shipping were allowed to report at normal time. Later, they said first shift production was allowed to continue but maintenance and shipping reported at their regular scheduled time. 

All production shifts were allowed to resume normal work by Tuesday night's shift.
