COLUMBIA, S.C. — The countdown is on until taxes are due on April 15. 

The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs offer free tax help for taxpayers who qualify. 


  1. The Cooperative Ministry will be open Saturday, April 13 from 9am-3pm for a special Tax-a-Thon. This event is for individuals or households that earn less than $60,000 each year.
    • Make sure you bring:
      • Picture ID for yourself and your spouse
      • All wage and earning statements
      • Copy of last year's federal and state returns, if you have them available.
  2. The IRS reports Volunteers will also prepare taxes at First Nazareth Baptist Church Saturday from 9am- 12pm. 
  3. The IRS says Volunteers will also be at NorthStar in Forest Acres Saturday. However, an appointment is required. You can schedule an appointment by dialing 211.
  4. Hyatt Park on Jackson Avenue will have volunteers to 10am- 2:30pm.


If you are really procrastinating, or just don't have time until Monday, there are still a few services available:

  1. SC Works is also still offering tax prep services. They will be open Monday, April 15 from 5pm until 6:30pm. An appointment is not required.
  2. Volunteers from the Cecil Tillis Community Center will be at Richland Library-Edgewood on Oak Street from 5pm-7pm. An appointment is not required.
