Money Monday: How not to break the bank at the Fair

Steven Hughes from Know Money Inc. stopped by the News 19 Studio to give some tips about saving money at this year's fair.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The 150th South Carolina State Fair is here in the capital city! All across the Palmetto state people are coming to the fair to partake of fair time favorites like carnival rides, fair foods and dozens of games.

Here are three ways you and your family can enjoy all the fun that the fair has to offer without breaking the bank this year.

1. Come for the Food -

You may feel like you've outgrown the rides at the fair, but the food options bring in people of all ages.

If you're only going to the fair for food, it may be better for you to cash in on the lunch promotion.

Each day you can exchange $10.00 cash for a lunch admission ticket at the ticket booth, purchase lunch from any of the vendors between 12 noon and 2 pm., and get your $10.00 back when you return your lunch bunch ticket to the ticket booth by 2 pm.

2. Park for Free -

Headed to the fair this weekend? Park free at the South Carolina State Museum and ride the free COMET shuttle over to the fair.

Not only will you save the $5 for parking, but you'll also receive $5 to use at any food concession stand.

3. Decide on your day -

Children under 5 years old and active and retired military receive free admission to the fair each day, but college students, South Carolina Gamecock fans and more can cash enjoy the same privilege throughout the fair's schedule.

Visit the state fair's website to check out all of the ticket deal days.
