History was made at Super Bowl XLI even before kickoff. Lovie Smith became the first African American head coach to make it to the NFL’s Super Bowl. Smith’s Chicago Bears won the NFC Championship that put them in Super Bowl XLI.History was made again when Tony Dungy, coach of the Indianapolis Colts, beat the Chicago Bears to go on and win making Dungy the first African American head football coach to win the Super Bowl. Dungy’s Indianapolis Colts won Super Bowl XLI with a 29-17 victory over the Chicago Bears.Dungy’s career has included several notable firsts. He was the first NFL head coach to defeat all 32 teams, the youngest assistant coach at age 25, and the youngest coordinator at age 28 in NFL history.
