In a post on her Instagram story, O'Donnell says she had to undergo surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina Friday evening.

CHARLESTON, S.C. — CBS This Morning anchor Norah O'Donnell says she was hospitalized while visiting Charleston.

In a post on her Instagram story, O'Donnell says she had to undergo surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina Friday evening.

She posted a picture of herself in a hospital bed and wrote she had an operation to remove her appendix "before it ruptured."

She also posted a video saying "heading to surgery" and a picture in the intensive care unit at MUSC.

O'Donnell's latest post showed her in a hospital bed and read, "Grateful for amazing nurses, surgeon and the whole team," at MUSC.

The posts have since expired on her Instagram.

Her husband, Geoff Tracy, posted about the unexpected surgery on Twitter. He called it a "huge success" and thanked her friends from CBS This Morning and the team at MUSC.

CBS has not said when O'Donnell will return to CBS This Morning.
