Inmate back in custody after walking away from Upstate prison

Adams was found early Monday morning in Spartanburg County.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Corrections officials say an inmate was captured early Monday morning after walking away from Livesay Correctional Institution and Pre-release Center Sunday.

Officials say Shane Adams was found around 3 a.m. near a friend's house in Spartanburg County. He is now charged with escape and is being held in the Spartanburg County Detention Center pending his return to the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

He last seen at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the Spartanburg Pre-release center, located off New Cut Road and I-85.

Afternoon visitation at Livesay Correctional Institution and Pre-release Center was cancelled after his escape.

He was serving time for grand larceny and burglary.

Adams is 6 foot tall with red hair, blue eyes, and weighs 242 pounds. He has a "No Fear" tattoo on his right arm.
