Murder Suspect in Custody

(Columbia) -- Columbia police say a suspect in a deadly shooting has turned himself in.Twenty-nine-year-old Neanza Nix is now behind bars at the Richland County Detention Center.Officers say he's a suspect in connection with the July 24th shooting death of 58-year-old Milton Mack, Jr. Investigators tell News 19 that Nix, along with a juvenile, knocked on Mack's door that night. Officers believe Mack let them in because he knew at least one of them. Officers say the pair then proceeded to rob and shoot Mack.Nix is charged with murder and two counts of armed robbery. He'll have a bond hearing at a later date in general sessions court.The juvenile suspect was arrested earlier. Acting on a tip from the Department of Probation and Parole, 16-year-old Kyrie Johnson was arrested when he arrived for a meeting at the Richland County Courthouse. Johnson is being charged, as an adult, with murder and armed robbery.Mack's family now wears a picture of his face on some t-shirts they made. It's one way to remember the man they knew as a father, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather. "He was wonderful. He helped anyone he could help," said his daughter, Melissa Sumpter."I lost the best thing of my life," said Lavern Mack, Milton's wife of 35 years.
