Lockout lifted at Westwood High School; search for suspect in fatal shooting continues

Richland County Sheriff's Department continues search for suspect in Blythewood area

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — The lockout on Westwood High School has been lifted as of 9:45 a.m. as the search area for a suspect in a shooting incident has shifted.

Classes continued at the Richland School District Two, although the buildings were locked so that no one can get in or out.

District Two spokesperson Libby Roof said the Blythewood-area school was contacted by the Richland County Sheriff's Department around 8:10 a.m. Thursday, October 13, and told to go to lockout status in an abundance of caution. The students are all safe.

WLTX has reached out to Richland County Sheriff's Department (RCSD) for details of a possible shooting in the Wren Creek neighborhood in the northeast portion of the county.

According to RCSD, deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the 300 block of Glen Dornoch Way around 7 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies found an unresponsive man outside of the home. The man was transported to a local hospital with gunshot wounds to the upper body. He later succumbed to his injuries.

RCSD conducted a search for the suspect, who they believed left the site on foot.

The investigation continues and RCSD asks anyone with information about the incident to contact CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or online at crimesc.com
