Orangeburg man arrested, had $22,000 in drugs

Investigators also located plastic bags of heroin and marijuana inside a toilet bowl.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — An Orangeburg man has been arrested for drug charges after spending two years in prison on separate drug charges.

Kamal Morton, 26, was being sought on charges of manufacturing or possessing ecstasy, trafficking heroin, trafficking cocaine and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Morton was also charged with possession with intent to distribute ecstasy, possession with intent to distribute alprazolam, trafficking heroin and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

On December 19, Orangeburg County Sheriff’s investigators executed a search warrant at Morton’s home and found a stash of heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, crack cocaine, marijuana and alprazolam that had a street value of $15,000.

They also found a loaded .45 caliber handgun, cash and drug paraphernalia such as digital scales and plastic bags.

On Tuesday, January 6, investigators attempted to initiate a traffic stop after seeing Morton driving away from the residence. Morton began a vehicle chase before getting out of his car and going into a home. Morton also left his car in gear so it continued to travel as he fled.

When investigators informed the home owner of why Morton was being sought, she wanted her home searched “because she didn’t want her grandchildren” who were present to find anything harmful to them, according to the incident report.

Searching a bathroom, investigators located a black bag that contained cash, heroin, Molly, ecstasy and alprazolam. Located inside a toilet bowl were plastic bags of heroin and marijuana.

Bond was denied and deferred to circuit court.

Morton pled guilty to multiple drug charges in 2016 for which he served nearly three years in prison.
