Free, public forum on solutions to violent crime to be held May 18 in Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. — For those in the Columbia area who are concerned about violence in the community, you have a chance to listen to community leaders and weigh in with your opinion and questions in a free, open forum Thursday evening in Columbia.

Public Safety Solutions for America (PSSA) and Serve & Connect partner to host a public forum on ways to reduce crime and improve police-community relations 5:30-7:30 p.m. May 18 at the Palmetto Club, 1231 Sumter St.

The panel discussion will include Columba Mayor Daniel Rickenmann, Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook, and and U.S. Conference of Mayors President Francis Suarez (Mayor of Miami, Florida). The moderator for the discussion will be PSSA founder Ja'Ron Smith, a former advisor to President Trump.

Kassy Alia, founder of Serve & Connect, will be making remarks. Alia and Serve & Connect will also be hosting an event earlier on Thursday, 1-3 p.m. at Petersen Presbyterian Church, 8131 Brookfield Rd. in Columbia.
