COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia police say a security guard shot a man who attacked him at a Columbia hotel.

Officers gave new information late Tuesday morning into the incident that happened around 11 p.m. Monday night at the Embassy Suites hotel on Stoneridge Drive.

Initially, investigators said it was a fight between two men. But now officers say one of the men worked at the hotel. According to police, a man went into the hotel and assaulted the guard, who was credentialed and armed. The guard then shot the suspect. 

The suspect's injuries are said to be non life-threatening. Both he and the guard were taken to the hospital for treatment. 

The incident remains under investigation.
