Saluda County, SC (WLTX) - Authorities have identified the suspect who they say shot at deputies last week in Lexington County.
Saluda County deputies say 34-year-old Samuel Huguenin Jr. is still in the hospital and is being guarded by officers.
Around 4 p.m. last Friday, officers from both the Saluda County Sheriff's Department and the Lexington County Sheriff's Department went to a serve an arrest warrant for taking and using a vehicle without permission with intent to deprive to a suspect at a home on Nathaniel Oxner Road, near Old Lexington Road.
When confronted by officers, deputies say the man tried to leave the scene, driving right at officers. Officers say the suspect hit a Saluda County vehicle being driven by one of their deputies. There was then an exchange of gunfire, and the suspect was shot.
One of the officers, Lt. Russell Padgett from the Saluda County Sheriff's Office, was taken to the hospital for injuries but was released the next day. His fellow officer, Deputy Dale Hallman, was not injured.
Both officers are on administrative leave while the case is investigated.
