Suspect shoots into Lexington home where two children were inside

The family affected by the shooting tells News19 a shed and one of their vehicles were hit by bullets.

LEXINGTON, S.C. — Deputies are investigating after someone shot up a home in Lexington County Thursday morning.

Officials say it happened on Vondra Drive just off of Old Orangeburg Road around 5 a.m.

"I heard a lot of popping noises and I didn't know what it was," resident Michael Erickson said.

Erickson, his fiancée, and two children were sleeping when they heard the gun shots.

"I hopped up and looked out the window and in a quick glimpse I saw a car, I just heard things hitting my house," Erickson said.

Erickson's two children are four and five years old.

"The only thing in my head was my kids," Erickson said. "I immediately hopped up and told my kids to get on the ground, lay on the floor, lay on the floor."

Thankfully no one was hurt and only damage was left to the home.

"Why would you want to take someone's life? Why would you want to shoot in a house at 5:30 in the morning to target my brother and his family, I don't understand it," Erickson's sister said.

Erickson said he has only been a tenant there for about a month. The Lexington County Sheriff's office said in the past three years they have had multiple calls to that same address. Those calls were for one larceny and two non-violent family offenses, but the home was occupied by other people at that time.

"I can't rest my head in this house no more," Erickson said. "I just don't feel comfort, I'm scared for me and my kids lives."

Captain Adam Myrick with the Lexington County Sheriff's office says a suspect opened fire on the house. Four people were inside, including two children. However, no one was hit by the gunfire.

The family affected by the shooting also tells News19 a shed and one of their vehicles were hit by bullets. The father says he told his children to get on the ground.

Officers do not know who the shooter is, or why the house was targeted. The father says he moved his kids and his fiancee into the home within the last month.

Deputies do not have a vehicle description.
