West Columbia, SC (WLTX) — The West Columbia Police Department has arrested a man in connection with the shooting deaths of two people on July 5.

Officers announced that investigators have charged 25-year-old Damien Lavar Ritter with two counts of murder, attempted murder, robbery while armed with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm during a violent crime, kidnapping, grand larceny, and criminal conspiracy.

The shooting happened on July 5 at apartments located in the 900-block of Glenn Street in West Columbia. Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the deceased as 41-year-old Elzie Mack, Jr. and 26-year-old Samir Bernard Atkins. A third person was injured in the shooting.

Police said Ritter was booked at the Lexington County Jail, awaiting a bond hearing.
