Troopers: Vehicle struck, killed pedestrian then left scene near Pinewood

Authorities are still looking for the vehicle involved in the crash.

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — One person is dead and investigators are looking for the driver they believe is responsible following a Saturday morning crash south of Pinewood.

According to Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Elliott Highway near Ardis Road near the border between Clarendon and Sumter counties.

Authorities believe that, around 7:20 a.m., an unknown southbound vehicle struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway. Authorities said the vehicle involved in the crash left the scene.

No additional details were available about the suspect vehicle and the victim was not publicly identified.

The investigation into the crash is still underway and involves the Highway Patrol's Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT).
