Dreher soccer team makes history

The Dreher boys soccer team won its first ever state championship and it had to go to extraordinary lengths to do so

In earning its first state championship ever, the Dreher boys soccer team had to work overtime for it - and then some.

After 110 minutes of soccer, the 4A state championship would be decided by penalty kicks.

With John Duncan in goal, John Platanis nailed the game-winning shot in the final round, giving the Blue Devils a dramatic 4-3 (PK) win over Eastside Friday night at Irmo High School.

Eastside led the match 1--0 at halftime after Mario Figueroa scored in the 37th minute.

The Blue Devils tied it in the 57th minute when Jonnie Morgan scored by heading in a corner kick in the 57th minute.
