COLUMBIA, S.C. — A couple in Jenkinsville won the state lottery with a combination of family birth dates.

The wife called her husband at work to tell him they had won the Palmetto Cash 5.

“I was so nervous,” the wife said.

“I was calm,” the husband told lottery officials describing his reaction. “We complement each other nicely.”

“We’re going to continue to live a quiet life,” said the husband of their plans.

“And play again,” added the wife.

Columbia News Stand #2 at 1100 Washington St. in Columbia sold the couple the winning ticket. Columbia News Stand #2 received a $1,000 commission for selling the winning ticket.

The ticket matched all five numbers drawn on May 28 that won the top prize. The numbers were 1, 12, 20, 23 and 32.

The chances of winning $100,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 501,942.
