ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. -- After the mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, conversations surrounding school safety have moved center stage.
Some ideas include imposing stricter gun laws, adding school resource officers or even arming teachers. But it's another idea that has a group in Rockingham County jumping into action.
A church is looking to bring safety to our schools through the power of prayer.
"I don't believe the problem is gun control. I believe the problem is a heart problem," said Pastor Joshua Patterson with Saving Grace Ministry. "And there's only one person who can fix that heart problem and that's God almighty."
It's why the church hosted a prayer circle on Monday evening outside of the Rockingham County School District headquarters.
Patterson plans to host prayer circles every Monday evening at 7 p.m. at different schools in the county.
He invites anyone who is interested to join in and pray for students and teachers in the area.
