With SC Gov. McMaster closing schools till the end of the month, schools have a plan for feeding students.

Richland One School District Updates Meal Program Due to Spring break

Due to spring break, Richland One School District has updated its meal program for next week.

On Friday, April 10, students will receive meals for next week, April 13-17.

There will be no meal pick-ups or deliveries during spring break.

Meal distribution will resume on Monday, April 20. 

Orangeburg County School District Updates Grab 'N Go meals 

Meals will continue to be delivered along bus routes at the designated bus stops according to the following schedule*:

Monday – Pick up meals for Monday and Tuesday

Wednesday – Pick up meals for Wednesday

Thursday – Pick up meals for Thursday and Friday

This schedule is for the following weeks: April 6-10; April 20-25, and April 27-May 1.

If your child does not ride the bus and you would like to participate, please call the Transportation office at 803-533-6336 or 803-533-6337 and they can provide you an approximate time to look for the bus! Buses will make deliveries between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm daily. Times may vary daily.

They will only serve meals at the following school locations:

Meal Pick Up Sites (for students to pick up from school) from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

1 – Mellichamp Elementary – 350 Murray Rd., Orangeburg, SC 29115

2 – Marshall Elementary – 1441 Marshall St., Orangeburg, SC 29118

3 – Edisto Primary School – 3239 Cordova Road, Cordova, SC 29039

4 – Dover Elementary – 1411 Bedford Ave., North, SC 29112

5 – Lake Marion High School – 3656 TeeVee Road, Santee, SC 29142

6 – Holly Hill Elementary – 1490 Brant Ave., Holly Hill, SC 29059

7 – Branchville High School – 1349 Dorange Road., Branchvville, SC 29432

The school meal service will be available according to the same schedule as bus delivery service and at the times listed above:

Monday – Pick up meals for Monday and Tuesday

Wednesday – Pick up meals for Wednesday

Thursday – Pick up meals for Thursday and Friday

As a reminder, in accordance to USDA policies, students must be present at the time of meal pick-up/delivery at bus stop.

*SPRING BREAK – APRIL 13-17

The District will be closed for Spring Break April 13-17. However, meals will be provided for students prior to the break.

On Friday, April 10, 2020, we will prepare and deliver meals (5 breakfast/5 lunch) for students to use the week of April 13-17. We will have these available for pick up at the seven locations listed above and our buses will deliver along their routes between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm on Friday, April 10.

Lexington County School District One alters food program for children

Lexington County School District one has announced that parents/guardians participating in the district's free food program for children will pick up Friday's lunch along with breakfast and lunch intended for Monday, April 6 and Tuesday, April 7.

This change is due to spring break as the district will be closed and there will be no meal program for the rest of the week.

The meal program will resume Tuesday, April 14 with students receiving Tuesday's lunch and the next day's breakfast.

Starting Wednesday, April 15, the district says it will be changing its feeding program into a two day a week program. 

On Monday's the district says it will provide Monday's lunch, Tuesday's breakfast and lunch and Wednesday's breakfast. 

On Wednesday's the district says it will provide Wednesday's lunch and breakfast and lunch for the following Thursday and Friday.

Many of the high school health science programs in Lexington County ... School District One recently donated much needed personal protective equipment (PPEs) to nursing homes and health care facilities in our community. The schools gave hundreds of boxes of gloves and masks, along with gowns, face shields, shoe covers and goggles.

Kershaw County School District meals for April 6-10 to be given out on April 3 because of Spring Break

Kershaw County School District has announced that there will be no meal deliveries during the week of April 6-10 during Spring Break. However, the school district says that people can pick up their food for that week on Friday, April 3. It will include 10 meals (five lunches and 5 breakfasts) for students to cover the spring break week. 

However, meal deliveries and pick-up will resume on Monday, April 13. 

Their four pick-up locations include Bethune Elementary, Blaney Elementary, North Central Middle and Camden High. The 10 meals will be given out during 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. only. 

KCSD Families - this is a reminder that tomorrow, our meal delivery ... by bus will include 10 meals - 5 lunches and 5 breakfasts. There will be no deliveries during the week of April 6-10 during Spring Break.

By order of the Governor of South Carolina, all South Carolina schools are canceled for students starting March 16, 2020, through March 31, 2020. 

With the closure of schools, all student activities including athletics, are canceled from March 16 - March 31.

However, breakfast and lunch will still be available in most districts and here are how many will be feeding students while schools are closed.

Richland One

Officials with Richland School District One say the district will expand its efforts to provide meals to more students and families while schools are closed because of the coronavirus starting Wednesday, March 18. 

In addition to adding four more meal distribution sites, Richland One will use school buses to deliver meals to neighborhoods throughout the district. 

In an effort to be more efficient and save time, starting Thursday, March 19 families will receive two meals (breakfast and lunch) at the same time. 

Here’s how it will work:

Wednesday, March 18/ School Meal Distribution Sites

Breakfast pickup 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the following schools: 

  • A.C. Flora High
  • Caughman Road Elementary
  • Rosewood Elementary
  • Forest Heights Elementary
  • Hyatt Park Elementary
  • Lower Richland High
  • Southeast Middle
  • Eau Claire High
  • John P. Thomas Elementary
  • Carver-Lyon Elementary
  • St. Andrews Middle

NOTE: Webber Elementary will no longer serve as a distribution site. 

Lunch pick-up from 11:00-1:00 p.m. at sites listed above (with the exception of Webber). In addition to lunch, students will also receive a breakfast they can eat on Thursday morning.

Starting Thursday, March 19 through March 31
**At School Meal Distribution Sites**

Breakfast and lunch pickup (11 a.m. – 1 p.m.): Families will receive two meals – lunch, as well as breakfast for the following morning. There will no longer be two separate pickup times at the distribution sites.

**School Bus Meal Drop-off Locations**

Breakfast and lunch delivery (starting at 11 a.m.): District school buses will deliver two meals – lunch, as well as breakfast for the following morning – to 21 sites throughout the district. Refer to the chart below for specific drop off times and location addresses.

Richland Two

While school is closed, free bag breakfasts and lunches for children up to age 18 will be made available. 

The meals will be distributed through pick-up lines outside of the school buildings at the following locations: Bethel-Hanberry Elementary,Bridge Creek Elementary, Dent Middle, Joseph Keels Elementary, Killian Elementary, Longleaf Middle, LW Conder Elementary, North Springs Elementary, Polo Road Elementary, Pontiac Elementary and Rice Creek Elementary. In the effort to support social-distancing practices, the meals cannot be consumed on-site. Children do not have to attend one of these schools to receive free meals.

Lexington Richland Five

Beginning on Monday, March 23, School District Five will open feeding sites on Mondays only. Students will receive 5 days-worth of breakfast and lunch items, during the Monday meal offering.

There are 6 locations across the district, serving meals 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the front of each school under the canopy.

  • H. E. Corley Elementary
  • Harbison West Elementary
  • Seven Oaks Elementary
  • Irmo High
  • Dutch Fork High
  • Chapin High School

Students will not be required at feeding sites for parents & guardians to receive their students' meals. 

Meal drop-off deliveries will be provided on Mondays to the following apartment complexes at the following times:

  • Waters at Berryhill Apartments 11:00 am -11:30 am
  • River Oaks Apartments 11:45 am - 12:15 pm
  • Irmo Village Apartments 12:30 pm - 1:00 pm

Lexington One

The school district will offer free food to children 18 years and younger. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., children can receive a "grad and go" bag containing lunch and the next day's breakfast.

The following locations will serve as food program “grab and go” sites:

  • Carolina Springs Middle School, 6180 Platt Springs Road, Lexington, SC 29073;
  • Forts Pond Elementary School, 7350 Fish Hatchery Road, Pelion, SC 29123;
  • Gilbert Primary School, 520 Main Street, Gilbert, SC 29054;
  • Oak Grove Elementary School, 479 Oak Drive, Lexington, SC 29073 (pending approval);
  • Red Bank Elementary School, 246 Community Drive, Lexington, SC 29073;
  • Rosenwald Community Learning Center, 420 Hendrix Street, Lexington, SC 29072; and
  • White Knoll Elementary School, 132 White Knoll Way, West Columbia, SC 29170.

The program runs Monday through Friday throughout the district’s closure due to COVID-19.

Lexington Two 

Lexington Two will serve free breakfast and lunch weekdays, Monday through Friday, to any child in need while schools are closed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Meals for youth ages 18 and younger will be offered by Sodexo, the district’s food service provider, at the following locations.

Tuesday and Wednesday, March 17-18, at all elementary schools: From 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on these days, pick up a brown-bag lunch -- along with breakfast for the following day -- at any of Lexington Two’s elementary schools. Find a list of the elementary schools here: https://bit.ly/2w1zRes.

Thursday, March 19, and weekdays thereafter: A brown-bag lunch will be distributed from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. -- along with breakfast for the following day -- at these locations:

  • Airport High: 1315 Boston Ave.
  • Cayce Elementary: 515 Bulldog Blvd.
  • Riverbank: 160 Cougar Drive
  • Wood: 737 Pine Ridge Drive

In addition, Turner AME Church will provide a lunch and snack from 12 p.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Friday. The first day of that service is Monday, March 16. The church is at 1122 Monticello Road.

Lexington Three School District

Beginning on Monday, March 23rd, there will be only ONE food pick-up day per week. The pick-up day will occur every Monday and at that time, children will receive seven breakfasts and seven lunches to carry them through the entire week. Lexington Three will still disperse meals to children via a bus route with designated stops and through a drive-through line at Batesburg-Leesville Elementary School.

A few things to remember:

--The feeding program is free to all children under the age of 18.

--Children MUST be present in order to receive a bagged meal.

Bus Route Information:

A bus carrying bagged meals will make three stops each Monday at several points within the district’s lines in an effort to make food pick-up more accessible for families. Out of consideration for everyone’s health and well-being, we ask that only one family at a time approach the bus. Please see the bus schedule below for meal pick-up locations and times.

11:00 am until 11:30 am - Mr. B's Convenience Store near Leesville Gardens

(402 East Columbia Avenue, Leesville)

11:45 am until 12:15 pm - Empty Parking Lot Behind McDonald's

(212 West Columbia Avenue, Batesburg)

12:30 pm until 1:15 pm - Old Hardee’s Parking Lot

(502 West Columbia Avenue, Batesburg)

Drive-Through Pick-Up at Batesburg-Leesville Elementary School:

Families can also pick-up food at Batesburg-Leesville Elementary School between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm every Monday. The address for Batesburg-Leesville Elementary School is: 403 South Lee Street Leesville, SC. Staff members will be passing out the bagged meals in a drive-through format in the bus loop of the school. Please remember that children still need to be present in order to receive bagged meals. Families are asked to please not exit their cars out of consideration of everyone’s health and well-being.

Staff members will be passing out the bagged meals in a drive-through format at the front of the school. 

Please remember that children still need to be present in order to receive a bagged meal. 

Families are asked to please not exit their cars out of consideration of everyone’s health and well-being.

Newberry School District

Newberry School district is asking families to hold up a sign or figners to indicate how many children need meals.  

Free Meal Service at Mid-Carolina High School, Newberry High School, Newberry Middle School, Pomaria-Garmany Elementary School, and Whitmire Community School. Pick up times are from 10 am - 12 pm.

They would like to be able to place the meals in the trunk of cars to reduce the risk of exposure, or roll down a window.   No need to get out of the car. 

 

Sumter School District

Sumter School District will continue to provide students with a meal during the district’s two-week closure. Through a snatch-a-snack process, breakfast and lunch will be distributed Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 20 in the bus pick-up area at each school with breakfast available from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Students must be present at the time of pick up as no food will be consumed on-site. Information regarding the distribution of food the following week will be communicated. If families experience difficulties regarding the ability to retrieve a device or a meal, please contact your school’s principal.

Kershaw County Schools

Kershaw County Schools announced they will be serving free breakfast and lunch on weekdays starting Monday, March 16 for those who are 18 years and younger at drive-through pick up locations at Bethune Elementary, Blaney Elementary, Camden High and North Central Middle.

Free meals are available for all children regardless of their meal status during the school year. Pick up will be along the bus rider line at each school with breakfast available from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students must be present at the time of pick up. According to the district, all food is “grab and go.” No food will be consumed on-site.

The school district will begin delivering student meals along bus routes. 

Lunch as well as breakfast for the following day will be delivered together at normal bus stops. Buses will leave the four pick up food sites—Bethune Elementary, Blaney Elementary, Camden High and North Central Middle--between 9:30 and 10 a.m. on weekdays.

Orangeburg School District

Beginning Monday, March 16, the district will provide two meals a day for all students. Meals will be served in a "grab and go" style at every school location. Students will pick up meals and carry it home with them. Please note that students 18 years old and younger may pick up lunch from any school location.

Breakfast will be served from 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. and lunch from 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. at each school site. In addition, bus drivers will begin delivering meals along bus routes throughout the district at 10:30 am and will make regular stops enabling students to pick up bagged lunches from the bus.

Clarendon School District Two

Beginning March 17, lunch and breakfast will be provided to students enrolled in Clarendon School District Two. Meals can be picked up from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at Manning Elementary School cafeteria entrance at the rear of the school. The Grab and Go bags will contain lunch for that day and breakfast for the next morning.

Clarendon School District Three

Grab and Go Meals will be available for pick up at East Clarendon and Walker Gamble Elementary between 11:30-12:30. Each meal bag will contain 2 meals (breakfast and lunch). East Clarendon pick up will be behind the cafeteria at the student parking lot. Walker Gamble pick up is at the front of the school. Any child ages 18 and under is available to receive meals, but need to be present for pickup. Additionally, Clarendon 3 buses will be distributing meals daily at several locations across the district. The schedule for this distribution is below.
