Hottest weather of the season on the way this week

Temperatures could be at or near the 100° mark for the Memorial Day weekend.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — It was a hot weekend. High temperatures were in the upper 80s and lower 90s both Saturday and Sunday. A few areas had a little rain Saturday, but Sunday was dry.

There could be a little fog early Monday morning, that fog will mix out and temperatures will climb. Highs will top out in the lower 90s.

A weak front will drop into the northern Midlands on Monday. This front and the sea breeze will give the area a slight chance of an afternoon thunderstorm.

The front will dissipate and the heat will build. High pressure aloft will be centered over the region blocking weather systems from moving into the area to produce rain.

Each day, a stray thunderstorm is not out of the question, but little rain is expected through Memorial Day.

At the end of the week the heat will combine with the humidity to send the heat index over 100 degrees. The actual air temperature will be at or near 100° during the Memorial Day weekend.

This will be the first heat wave of the season which can be dangerous since we are not used to it. Please take precautions through Memorial Day.
