Lexington One plans to enter an agreement to purchase land for a new elementary school.

Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees voted to enter an option agreement for about 35 acres of land for a new elementary school. The site is in the White Knoll attendance area.

The district says the land has access from South Lake Drive and Bluefield Road. In a news release, the district says they will pay a traffic-engineering consultant to study what road and intersection improvements may be needed around the new school.

Mary Beth Hill, Chief Communications Officer for Lexington one, says, "that study will also examine the available road frontage, the depth of the property and the ability to provide necessary traffic circulation on site for the stacking of automobiles during peak student drop-off and pick-up times. We anticipate that the site will allow quite a bit of room for stacking cars on site, which helps keep them off the feeder roads."

The new school is part of a five-year $368 million building plan approved by voters in November of 2018. The district has set up a website to update residents on the construction and renovation projects approved by voters.
