COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The 2019 Love Peace & Hip-Hop festival in Columbia is almost here!

Love, Peace & Hip-Hop is a four-day celebration (April 10-13), capped by a free, family-friendly festival on Saturday, April 13 that brings over 16,000 attendees to Columbia's Main Street. 

The headliner this year is rap icon Big Daddy Kane, and he'll be joined by hip-hop legends the Sugar Hill Gang and the Furious Five.

World Famous Hip-Hop Family Day gathers the community together like no other event in the city. Attendees enjoy the best and brightest live performers, DJs, B-Boy dance crews, hip-hop visual artists, and craft and food vendors. 

Here's a look at the key events during the festival:

Wednesday April 10

Hip-Hop Bounce House Party at EdVenture Children's Museum

Grab the kids and come out for an afternoon of FREE family fun filled with deejays, dancing, and bounce houses at EdVenture Children’s Museum5:00 to 7:00 PM. FREE.

 New Wealth Lounge at Richland Library

Meet up with South Carolina’s next generation of entrepreneurs at the New Wealth Lounge. Powered by MoneySport International featuring DJ Swale spinning the latest wave of hip-hop in Richland Library Main newly redesigned auditorium, this event allows new school artists and young professionals to connect over the love of culture and entrepreneurship. Check out vendors like Off-Beat Kidd, SoleTouched and Soda Clothing Co. while battling for prizes over hip-hop trivia and off-the-wall raffles. 6:00 to 8:00 PM. FREE. 

Tacos and Rap at Tapp’s Arts Center

Join us at The SODA Live in Tapp’s Arts Center to cap off the day with Tacos and Rap. Check out DJ Swale and fill your belly with tasty tacos. 8:30 PM to 11 PM. $10.

Thursday, April 11 

Love, Peace & Hip-Hop Kick Off at Tapp’s Arts Center

Come kick off the 7th year of Love, Peace & Hip-Hop at Tapp’s Arts Center. Join us along with community partners, sponsors, and friends of the festival as we both look back on seven years of peace, love, unity, and having fun and look ahead to our most exciting year yet. 5:30 to 7:00 PM. FREE. 

Hip-Hop Karaoke at SODA Live in Tapp’s Arts Center

Forget about the other karaoke nights you’ve been to and come experience the illest hip-hop karaoke ever. We’ve got the lights, the DJ, and the emcee. All you have to do is pick your favorite hip-hop track from the list, grab the mic, and release your inner rapper. Hosted by Unlockingrva and Hip-Hop Karaoke all the way from Richmond, VA, and sponsored by the Free Times and Latino Communications Community Development Corporation (LCCDC), this is a next-level party you don’t want to miss. 7:00 to 10:00 PM. Friday, April 12

Love, Peace & Hip-Hop Presents: The Get Down on the Plaza at the Columbia Museum of Art

Get ready for The Get Down. Love, Peace & Hip-Hop is celebrating the four core elements of hip-hop culture — DJs, graffiti artists, B-Boys, and emcees — on the newly renovated Boyd Plaza. Pregame for the next day's 7th Annual World Famous Hip Hop Family Day with performances by break-dance crews, live painting, and DJs spinning everything from old-school classics to the latest wave. Make an evening of it with food and beverage vendors as well as a meet and greet with Czar Record's newest signee, Chadd Downing. This event is supported by a grant from the Knight Foundation Fund at Central Carolina Community Foundation. Free and fun for the whole family. 6:00 to 9:00 PM. FREE., April 13

World Famous Hip-Hop Family Day

Presented by Love, Peace & Hip-Hop, the City of Columbia, and WellCare Healthy Connections, Hip-Hop Family Day is an unforgettable FREE day of fun with the best and brightest live performers, DJs, dance crews, hip-hop visual artists, and craft and food vendors.

World Famous Hip-Hop Family Day is proud to feature Big Daddy Kane as its headliner for 2019. A Grammy Award-winning artist who began his career in 1986 as a member of the rap collective the Juice Crew, Big Daddy Kane is ranked as one of the top 10 MCs of all time.

In addition to Big Daddy Kane, the legendary and historic Sugar Hill Gang and the Furious Five will both grace the stage as part of the 40th anniversary celebration of the 1979 hit “Rapper's Delight.” Released on the iconic Sugarhill Records label, “Rapper’s Delight” was the first rap single to become a Top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. The Furious Five, with

their platinum-selling classic, “The Message,” was catapulted to international recognition and eventual induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. NOON to 6:00 PM. FREE. 

World Famous After Party at Tapp’s featuring DJ Shakim

To keep the celebration going, join us for the all-new World Famous After Party. We’ll be taking over Tapp’s Arts Center with three unique dance venues, including classic hip-hop with DJ Shakim in the Skyline Room, new wave hip-hop with DJ Swale in the gallery, and a Jamaican Dance Hall downstairs in The Space Hall. Drop the kids with a sitter and make a night of it.
