Body found outside SC Walmart identified as employee

Camden police, SLED and the Kershaw County Coroner's Office are investigating the death.

CAMDEN, S.C. — Officials are investigating after a the body of a Walmart employee was found at a Midlands Walmart.  

Melissa Watson Hopkins, 54, of Kershaw County, was found with an apparent gunshot wound at a Camden Walmart Wednesday afternoon, according to Kershaw County coroner David West.

Officials say Kershaw County 911 received a call around 2 p.m. reporting that a woman in a car outside the Walmart appeared to be sick. When EMS arrived on the scene, they say they found the woman on the ground beside her car after bystanders had taken her out of the car and started CPR. 

An autopsy is scheduled to be performed Thursday to determine the cause of death, according to coroner West. 

Camden police, the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and the Kershaw County Coroner's Office are investigating the death.
