Burglar chased almost 2 miles by barefoot homeowner arrested in downtown Columbia

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A man is in custody after being chased through a Rosewood neighborhood after an alleged home burglary.

George Tyrone Jenkins was wanted on outstanding warrants for first-degree burglary and larceny charges from the November 8 incident. Columbia police say a tip lead to his arrest in downtown Columbia around midnight Tuesday.

Jenkins is accused of stealing money from a house 600 block of Waccamaw Avenue while the victim slept. The victim realized the suspect was in the room, then reportedly chased him for about 2 miles — barefoot, dressed only in basketball shorts.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

Police are also investigating whether Jenkins is connected to similar incident in Columbia
