Sumter, SC (WLTX) Sumter firefighters battled a fire at the C+C recycling plant on Liberty Street.

Sumter Fire Batallion Chief Joey Duggin says the fire began around 5:50 PM on Thursday.

According to Duggin, the blaze involved about 30 cars that were waiting to be crushed. Over 50,000 gallons of water was used to bring the blaze under control in little over an hour and a half, four fire stations responded.

No word yet on cause or a damage estimate. One dog was killed in the fire, but no people were injured.
