Charlotte Calzone Company Recalls Products after Someone Cuts Tongue

Stefano's pepperoni five cheese calzones may have pieces of hard, sharp, clear plastic in them.

A Charlotte food company is recalling 24,048 pounds of calzones after someone lacerated their tongue.

The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service says Smithfield Packaged Meats Corps is recalling Stefano's pepperoni five cheese calzones that may have pieces of hard, sharp, clear plastic in them.

The calzones were made on May 23, 2018 and have lot code "14318B" on the individual packages. Use by date on the 8-oz packages is listed as 1/18/2019.

These items were shipped to retail stores nationwide.

The problem was discovered after several consumers contacted Stefano Foods. On July 16, 2018, the company notified FSIS.

One consumer reported experiencing a small oral laceration during consumption of the product. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Keep in mind, the product could be in your freezer or at a retailer. If you have purchased the product, do not eat it. FSIS says you should throw it away or return it to the place of purchase.
