City of Cayce preparing for Soiree on State

Parks manager James Denny says managing traffic this year will be a big obstacle with nearby construction and highway changes.

CAYCE, S.C. — The city of Cayce is getting ready for their widely celebrated spring festival.

Today crews were out stringing lights and doing last minute getting ready, as the preparation for the 'Soiree on State' gets closer to the big day.

For the last three weeks, Cayce city crews have been scoping out State Street to make sure it's ready for Saturday.

'Soiree on State' is one of Cayce's biggest draws of the year.

"It's actually got a really cool other purpose which is that it's been a purposeful economic development engine for the city of Cayce, helping to revitalize the original heart of our city, our original downtown," Cayce mayor Elise Partin said.

Partin says the festival has drawn ten new businesses to this street since the festival's inception.

Parks manager James Denny explains the café lights are brand new this year, adding that his crews tested the lights before putting them up Tuesday.

Crews also tested electrical, measured spaces for vendors and checked for safety hazards, like rotted wood that needed replacing. But Denny tells says a big obstacle this year will be managing traffic.

That's because Axtell Drive, near where the festival will be, is under construction and closed for maintenance and this Friday, I-77's northbound lane changes.

"We've got to detour well enough so when they get down to 12th Street, if they're coming down 321 or Charleston Highway, they're going to detour off on 12th Street," Denny said.

With over 1500 people expected to show up, Denny explains he's preparing for the influx.

Soiree on State runs from 2 - 8 p.m. EST on March 25, 2023.
