LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — A Columbia woman is dead after a freak accident in Lexington County on Thursday.

Pamela Adams Powell, 49, of Columbia was traveling at a slow rate of speed due to traffic on I-20 Westbound when a tree fell on her vehicle around 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.

Powell was transported to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later due to her injuries, officials say. 

Powell was wearing a seat belt when the incident occurred.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the accident.
