18-year-old killed in crash near Irmo

Two others injured in Sunday afternoon accident on SC Hwy 6, just north of Irmo.

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — One person is dead and two others injured after an accident Sunday near Irmo, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The accident happened around 5:45 p.m. Sunday n the 3300 black of Dreher Shoals Road, on South Carolina Highway 6. That's about half a mile north of the Town of Irmo, according to Trooper Sonny Collins with S.C. Highway Patrol.

Officials say a 1994 Honda Civic, driven by James M Gladish, of Kingston Forest Drove in Irmo, was traveling west on Dreher Shoals Road while a 2013 Toyota Highlander was traveling east on the road. The driver of the SUV attempted to turn left into a private driveway, turning in front of the Honda, causing the two vehicles to crash, Collins says.

Gladish, who was not seat belted, died at the scene. The Richland County Coroner's Office confirmed Gladish sustained multiple blunt force injuries to the head and body, consistent with being an unrestrained driver.

The driver of the SUV and a passenger in the Honda were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Their condition is not known at this time.
