Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Richland County deputies say Morgan Roof still faces charges in connection to marijuana possession from March.

Morgan Roof, the sister of the man convicted of killing nine people at a South Carolina church, was charged with simple possession of marijuana after she was found with drugs and other items at school by a resource officer.

According to the Richland County Sheriff's Office, the charges were originally dropped when the prosecuting officer wasn't in attendance for the court hearing.

However, it was determined the prosecuting deputy wasn't aware of the court hearing, because the summons was sent to the wrong deputy — one with the same last name, different first name.

A motion to reopen the case, which was uncontested by Roof's attorney, was granted. Therefore, the drugs charges against Roof still stand.
