SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — One person was displaced after a fire at Palmetto Towers in Sumter Friday afternoon.
Sumter Fire Department officials say they were responded to the fire at Palmetto Towers around 4:55 p.m. Friday. Twenty-three firefighters from 4 stations responded to the scene.
Division Chief Joey Duggan says there was a fire in the kitchen of an apartment om the first floor. While some smoke damage occurred in other apartments, the fire was contained to the kitchen in the apartment where it started.
Damages to the apartment are estimated at $2,500, with another $1,000 in damages to the contents of the apartment, according to Duggan.
No one was injured.
