(WLTX) - Sibling rivalry is alive and well throughout the Marvel Universe. Especially on Asgard, where Loki is being punished for his prior actions. Father Odin is ready to retire and place the weight of responsibility on a new set of shoulders. But first, he must focus on the Convergence, a cosmic alignment of sorts that allows easy (yet, unpredictable) access to different worlds. If tampered with, the results could be catastrophic...and quite terminal.
Unfortunately, an old enemy of the family has been waiting for such an event to wreak a viral revenge. Through mere curiosity, our old friend Jane Foster winds up being an infected casualty. It will take more than just a hammer to finish this job. To save the universe, Thor will need a very unlikely ally.
The Battle of New York is certainly a tough act to follow. But they've definitely raised the stakes and extended the boundaries. In fact, very little of this film even takes place on Earth. The various portals and shape-shifting individuals can make things rather confusing. Fortunately, there's an extra dose of comedy to lighten anyone's mounting frustration.
I won't call it one of Marvel's best - but some slick surprises make it far from the worst. And, yes, I'd say it's better than the original (but not by much). As usual, the credits contain extra footage you'll want to stick around for...all the way to the end.
It may not be the Convergence. But it's an event nonetheless. No sense in missing out.
