I-26 Reopens Following Accident, Hazmat Spill Tuesday Morning

Officials say a tractor trailer carrying steel overturned near mile marker 64 around 4:50 a.m., spilling its load and resulting in a Hazmat situation.

Newberry County, SC (SC) — I-26 West in Newberry County has been reopened following a tractor trailer accident and hazmat spill early Tuesday morning.

Officials say a tractor trailer carrying steel overturned near mile marker 64 around 4:50 a.m., spilling its load and resulting in a Hazmat situation. Steel was in the road and heavy wreckers were brought in to remove the truck, according to authorities.

Traffic was detoured at the Jalapa exit for several hours, causing heavy traffic and delays on US 76 from Jalapa Road to Joanna in Laurens County, according to the Newberry County sheriff's Office.
