Irmo Community Park Reopens After Sewage Issue

Officials say 400 gallons of sewage was in the park.

Irmo, SC (WLTX) - One Midlands park had to close at one point during Labor Day because of sewage.

The Irmo Police Department posted on Facebook around 6 p.m. Monday night that the Irmo Community park had to be closed.

According to Whitt Cline, the director of Public Services in Irmo, 400 gallons of sewage was flowing through the creek.

While police closed the park, public service workers came to the park to clean out the water and crews flushed out the sewage out of the park.

The Town of Irmo says that the Department of Health and Environmental Control did not have to check out the area because it was at least 500 gallons of sewage.

Tuesday morning, the Irmo Police Department announced that the park is now back open to the public.
