KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — The Kershaw County Coroner has identified the woman found dead in a donation bin last week as someone who'd been reported missing since last year.

Coroner David West said Wednesday that after an autopsy allowed them to identify the woman as 47-year-old Lesley Lemoine of Lugoff. Her family was then informed of the news.

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office said Lemoine had been reported missing in March of 2022. The autopsy did not reveal her cause of death but there is additional lab work that is pending.

Lemoine's body was discovered on December 31st around 8:46 a.m. inside a metal clothing dumpster right off the busy us Highway One, between the Camden West Inn and Lugoff Toyota  Someone staying at the hotel had noticed a smell and when he looked inside the bin he saw what appeared to be a body, according to officers.

Kershaw County Sheriff Lee Boan said they believe Lemoine's body had been there for months. Boan said the bin had been there for years but had likely not been used for some time.

For now, deputies said they will continue to investigate her death as suspicious. They're asking anyone with information to call them at 803.425.1512 or Crimestoppers at 1.888.CRIME.SC.
