Sumter, SC (WLTX) Three men wanted for multiple weapons and drug offenses in Sumter are behind bars.

Kalvin D. Epps, 21, who was wanted for questioning in a November shooting death was located shortly after the county offered a $3.500 reward. Epps as well as Rakim Butler and Hikeem Ward were also at the residence and were arrested.

Epps was charged by the Sumter Police Department with discharging a firearm into a dwelling.

Police now say Epps shot into a home on Silver Street on Oct. 30, which sparked a retaliatory shooting about an hour later at a South Salem Street residence where Epps was known to frequent. Marcus Brown, 54, who was not the intended target, was struck by gunfire from a passing vehicle while sitting in his car outside of the Salem Street home and later died. Those involved in his shooting have not been identified.

Police think Epps, who was the intended target, is tied to subsequent shots fired calls that appear to be related to the events of Oct. 30. Two people were injured in those incidents, including a 13- year-old who suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound earlier this week.

Epps, who was being sought by the S.C. Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon at the time of these incidents, was additionally charged Thursday night by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

All three men were charged with multiple firearms and drug offenses including trafficking in heroin.
