Married couple in their 70s die in crash on Farrow Road

Troopers say a car was attempting to make a right-hand turn when another car ran off the road, causing a crash.
Two people died in a car wreck at Farrow Road and North Pines Road on Wednesday morning.

Columbia, SC (AP, WLTX) - A two-car crash on Farrow Road left a married couple dead and three others injured Wednesday morning.

Troopers say a car was attempting to make a right-hand turn when another car ran off the road, hitting the first car. The accident occurred around 9:20 a.m. at Farrow and North Pine roads.

The victims, identified as 79-year-old Robert A. Evans and 76-year-old Madeline Evans, died less than hour after being treated at Palmetto Health Richland. Both died from blunt chest trauma, according to the Richland County Coroner's Office.

In the other car, three people were transported to the hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

All five people were wearing seat belts.

The accident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol. There is no word yet on whether charges will be filed.
